I have to say that I'm inundated with new releases and I haven't seen many of the older classics that you've review. So I'm admittedly unable to appreciate some of what I'm currently seeing because of what I haven't seen, but at the same time I don't want to miss out on all the new movies. It's in a impossible balance for anyone, let alone someone who considers film and blogging a hobby.

Anyway, I look forward to your contemporary reviews and the animated series as well. Even my taste in old Disney animation is "contemporary" - Robin Hood from the 70's!Danielhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05222052132452709301noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8214297712303916286.post-10317262755581449172009-01-08T20:49:00.000-05:002009-01-08T20:49:00.000-05:00Thanks for the comments, all. I've never discounted the fact that you people are about the best bunch of readers a writer can ask for. :) I look forward to reading all of your work throughout this year as well, and giving it the spotlight it so richly deserves in the Sunday Matinee round-up. Hopefully I'll have some thoughts on Benjamin Button soon.T.S.https://www.blogger.com/profile/00945932279787919282noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8214297712303916286.post-86873219941716072362009-01-04T23:04:00.000-05:002009-01-04T23:04:00.000-05:00This is an auspicious and exciting line-up. I particularly look forward to the Buster keaton reviews (as your Chaplin stuff was incomparable)and I am always interested in the Disney features.

I agree with the good doctor that BENJAMIN BUTTON is largely successful. If you decide to do a year-end list, I know it will be top-rank.

Have the best year of all in 2009!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8214297712303916286.post-10279491393432725582009-01-03T20:57:00.000-05:002009-01-03T20:57:00.000-05:00Can't wait...especially for the Disney features. Though I hope your contingency plan is in place as this may be a shockingly more difficult goal than you would assume...given the risible tendency of the Mouse Factory to play now-you-see-it-now-you-don't with their most venerated classics (many are not even available on Netflix). If you have trouble accessing any of these films, I suggest raiding the homes of friends with kids and making off with their movie collection. Unsavory perhaps, but blogging ain't no tea party...

Not sure if you saw it yet, but I have linked up to your Obama endorsement (with a nod in the direction of your Hitchcock series too) on my year-end round-up review of favorite posts. There were a lot to choose from here and I ended up going in the slightly idiosyncratic direction, but I really did enjoy that piece.

You can read the whole entry (lots of other great links too) here:

http://thedancingimage.blogspot.com/2008/12/dancing-image-in-2008.html

Happy new year...Joel Bockohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11238338958380683893noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8214297712303916286.post-11302902061339599512009-01-02T13:12:00.000-05:002009-01-02T13:12:00.000-05:00Even though I write exclusicely about classic film...Even though I write exclusicely about classic films, I love contemporary ones too. So I see where you are coming from. And I have the same issue as you do, losing interest between film release and dvd release. Maybe that's why DVDs are coming out so much sooner these days?

I really like your blog and am looking forward to 2009.Raquel Stecherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02687110907002450794noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8214297712303916286.post-38396624120251548042009-01-01T18:16:00.000-05:002009-01-01T18:16:00.000-05:00Hi! Buster Keaton sounds like fun. Of more recent films, I recommend Benjamin Button. It strives for something like classic status, and at any rate, I found the film unusually thought-provoking for a recent release. The Film Doctor https://www.blogger.com/profile/03073505923746994988noreply@blogger.com
